Welcome from the Head Teacher

Head Teacher

Visitors to Darrick Wood School frequently comment on our pupils' excellent behaviour, their positive attitudes to each other, to their teachers and to their learning. They are also struck by the clean, well presented, modern facilities and the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities offered. Our results at GCSE and A level, outstanding grading in successive Ofsted inspections, designation as a Teaching School and numerous accolades and awards provide further evidence of the School's excellent reputation locally and nationally. Our approach is encapsulated in what we call The Darrick Wood Way, which incorporates our agreed core values of respect, responsibility and honesty within a framework of high expectations, everyone working together to achieve the best possible outcomes in all that we do. We show a reverence for life, in accordance with the School’s motto, Revereor Vitam.

Investment in the very latest technologies and in the professional development of staff ensure we continue to challenge ourselves and seek new ways to prepare pupils for life in a rapidly changing world. I hope this website provides an insight into life at Darrick Wood, but if you cannot find the information you seek or would like to visit the School yourself please get in touch. I look forward to meeting you.

Our School Values

After an extensive consultation exercise involving students, parents and staff, in 2010, 37 suggested core values were eventually whittled down to just three which subsumed many of the others: these are respect, responsibility and honesty.

We have promoted these across the whole school community ever since and they are vital constituents of what has become known as The Darrick Wood Way.

Respect includes respect for others, for oneself, for our surroundings and the environment.

Responsibility involves becoming more responsible in attitudes, taking on more responsibilities, accepting responsibility for actions and becoming responsible members of our School, local, national and global communities.

Honesty involves being honest with others and with ourselves.

Please support us in promoting these values.
