Charitable Work

At Darrick Wood, we are proud of our record of money raised for charity. Some recent examples are given below. We are always looking for new and exciting opportunities to support so please contact the School Office and our Charity Co-ordinator will be in touch.

For many years Darrick Wood has raised funds for our namesake in Nepal. We are currently working with Orpington Rotary Club, trying to raise money for them to build a farm. The farm will allow them to raise money to fund new projects for the School. This is a poor farming community area, where many children would be taken out of school and put to work with no education. Because of child sponsorship from the parents of Darrick Wood in the UK, this does not happen. In April 2014 we raised £4725.30 to support this very worthy cause. If you would like to donate towards our sister school in Nepal, please contact us.

Every year a speaker from the charity takes an assembly for Years 7 and 8 to promote awareness and gain support. A sponsored aerobics workout is then organised which raises over £1000.

Year 7 and 8 were sponsored for reading as many books as possible and this raised nearly £2000 in 2015.

The School raised over £1000 this year when pupils were allowed to wear jeans and/or pink accessories – a rare treat from the normally strict uniform policy. Thanks go in particular to Brooke Hollett (Year 12 and newly appointed Head Girl) who organised the event.

Other events and support include Help for Heroes, Save the Children (Christmas jumper), Action for Children (Christmas Concert), Children in Need and CHYPS.
